The global surgical lights Industry too is making a shift or rather a quick one wherein Incandescent bulbs/ halogen bulbs used since a century are being replaced by LEDs.
Global shift for usage of LED surgical light
The global LED surgical light is facing huge shifts or adoption primarily due to macroeconomic conditions wherein newer constructions and establishments are enhancing the demand for newer installation which are efficient and cost saving. Sustainability concerns for reducing carbon footprint and usage of renewable resources had added to a faster adoption of LEDs surgical lights. There is also greater awareness and need from regulators, investors and government for cleaner technologies like LED that has longer life with minimal energy consumption and is good for eyes when flickering is controlled through designs and usage of good quality material by manufacturers.

1. Technological Up-dation : Technology has resulted with LED OT lights giving a higher efficiency and lower cost .So a LED surgical light can last for more than 10 years without the need for any replacement or whatsoever. And the cost too has come down drastically with minimal power consumption needed. For example, 48 LED in a LED surgical lamp will need 48 watt/unit as compared to halogen bulbs that need at least 150 watt for each bulb. This reduces the power consumption to almost 50% and thus is becoming the choice for customers.
2. Better and cool colors through LEDs : It give the ability to visualize objects under the natural light conditions. As per Electro technical Commission (IEC), the Natural colors of objects are best visualised under bright daylight and thus lighting devices are compared to the reference value of 100 or CRI and it determines the quality of light in surgical lights .As per International Electro technical Commission (IEC), color rendering index (CRI) should be between 85 and 100.And LED surgical light technology has improved to a degree when CRI close to 100 can be manufactured and thus tissue can be clearly seen from cold white to warm tones to create differentiation. Additions like phosphors are further used to change the color of LED surgical light. So a single light can be used for various surgeries includes endoscopy, deep cavity etc without straining the eyes of the end user in hospital operating rooms.
3. Superior Design: Designs too have been enhanced by the Manufacturers to create shadow less patterns and controls for dimming options to adjust focus and lighting patterns as per the need of end users in hospital operating room. Suspension arm designs too have been improvised to make the surgical lights move across the complete rotational axis movement with minimal dangling and drifting.
LED Surgical lights industry has taken a complete shift with technology taking into consideration the end user requirement of minimal glare and longer life cycle. The eye fatigue has reduced for hospital operating room end user with the ability to control the illumination as required by procedure and preference of surgical teams to perform to their fullest.
